Esta especie es raramente vista en Perú, es de hábitos netamente costeros, por lo que no es raro verla cerca de la playa, y esta en peligro crítico de extinción. Es posible que permanezca más tiempo en la bahía, pues se trata de un par madre/cría. cetáceos, están en serio peligro de enmallarse en las redes de pesca, por lo que es necesario mantener las medidas de seguridad al desplegar los aparejos de pesca. </div><h1>Una ballena y su cría recorren el mar de Chorrillos, Barranco y Miraflores</h1>

Es raro que se acerquen a la costa.</div>

<div>Una <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://elcomercio.pe/tag/39722/ballenas">ballena</a> y su cría fueron avistadas ayer en las costas de <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://elcomercio.pe/tag/43925/chorrillos">Chorrillos</a>, <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://elcomercio.pe/tag/712/barranco">Barranco</a> y <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://elcomercio.pe/tag/38817/miraflores">Miraflores</a>.
Se trata de mamíferos de la especie “Eubalaena australis”, comúnmente
denominada franca austral, los cuales nadaron a unos 3 km de línea
costera desde las 10 a.m. hasta las 3 p.m.</div>
<div>El presidente de la Organización Científica para la Conservación de
Animales Acuáticos (ORCA), Carlos Yaipén, logró fotografiar de cerca a
las ballenas y dijo a <b>El Comercio</b> que la hembra y su
cría tienen unos 12 y 3 metros, respectivamente. Según agregó, estos
mamíferos llegan hasta el litoral sur de Lima cada año en agosto: “Hemos
seguido a este par de ballenas desde el 2006, pero siempre llegaban
hasta San Bartolo”.</div>
<div>La aparición de estos cetáceos se debe al enfriamiento del océano,
comentó Patricia Majluf, directora del Centro para la Sostenibilidad
Ambiental de la Universidad Cayetano Heredia. “El Océano Pacífico está
alterado debido al ingreso de una masa de agua fría empujada por el
anticiclón del sur. La ballena franca austral siempre pasa por el Perú,
pero rara vez cerca de la costa”, indicó para agregar luego que esa
clase de ballenas se encuentra en peligro de extinción debido a la caza
indiscriminada desde el siglo XIX.</div>
<div>Por su parte, la bióloga marina del Instituto del Mar del Perú
(Imarpe), Delia Vega, sostuvo que “lo más probable es que se trate de
una madre que esté enseñando a nadar a su cría. Ambos deben estar
buscando krill para comer”. </div>
<div>Tanto Majluf como Vega coincidieron en que las ballenas avistadas
