Himalayan range by 2030 to help meet its energy needs, which are under pressure

group of scientists at National University of Singapore (NUS)...<br>

The steep increase in diesel price has left fishermen red-faced with a call by
the Association of Indian Fisheries Industry (AIFI) to mechanised boat
operators in the country to terminate their voyage and return to the shore
immediately. Fuming with anger, AIFI president Y.G.K. Murti on Saturday rushed to
Kolkata to hold meeting with the fishermen leaders in West Bengal and Odisha.
“The exorbitant hike in diesel price will paralyse the industry at a time when
we are trying to limp back to normalcy,” he said...<br>

The all-Goa fishermen federation called on Union petroleum minister Veerappa
Moily and placed before him their grievances seeking relief for trawler owners.
Another round of talks is likely to be held on Thursday...<br>

An understanding on compensation has been reached between representatives of
the Panamian-flagged Japanese cargo vessel, ‘M V Izumo’ and various unions in
connection with the hit-and-run case off the Kozhikode coast on January 16. As
per the agreement reached at a meeting at the office of former state industries
minister Elamaram Kareem, MLA, in Kozhikode yesterday, the owners of the ship
will pay a compensation of Rs 19.5 lakh to the three fishermen who had a
miraculous escape after the ship rammed their fishing vessel ‘Al Ameen’,

diesel will severely hit the small and traditional fishing communities who
collect diesel from the petrol pumps of the marine fisheries cooperative

New Delhi: In  a joint venture, both India and Sri Lanka  have
decided to settle for an agreement, drawing a fishing boundary in the Palk
Strait which  would possibly bring to a halt  the frequent attacks on
Tamil Nadu fishermen by the island navy, said Minister of State in PMO V.

agreement has been agreed by both India and Sri Lanka which is in a closing
