<DIV> Por Decreto Supremo N° 7 del 20 de Marzo de 1964 el CIH y el IREMAR se integran como un solo organismo bajo la denominación de "<STRONG>Instituto del Mar del Perú</STRONG>" que fuera creado por el <STRONG>Decreto Supremo N° 21 del 06 del Setiembre de 1963, </STRONG>comenzando el 1 de julio de 1964 el funcionamiento del hoy prestigiado IMARPE <STRONG><FONT color=#0000ff>. Por lo tanto mañana el IMARPE cumple 50 años de su creación. </FONT><FONT color=#000000><FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: rgb(238,238,238)"><U>Nació de la fusión del CIH con el IREMAR</U></FONT>.</FONT></STRONG></DIV>

<DIV>En el año 1954 el Estado Mayor de la Marina de Guerra del Perú recogiendo sugerencias del propio cuerpo de la Armada, de la Compañía Administradora del Guano (CAG) y de la Dirección de Pesquería proyectan un Decreto Supremo que luego se plasmó en el DS 390 para la creación del " Consejo de Investigaciones Hidrobiológicas" (CIH) para a través de técnicos especializados realizar los estudio hidrobiológicos en miras del adecuado aprovechamiento y control de los recursos vivos del mar. El DS N° 10 de enero de 1957 del ramo de Marina ratificó el DS 390 y le dio al Consejo personería jurídica.</DIV>

<DIV>El 21 de abril de 1960 se firmó en Lima un acuerdo entre el Gobierno del Perú, el Fondo Especial de las Naciones Unida y la FAO para el establecimiento de un Instituto de Investigación de los Recursos Marinos del Perú - IREMAR -.</DIV>

<DIV>El Fondo Especial aportó 716,000 dólares americanos.</DIV>
<DIV>El Gobierno peruano lo hizo con 1'045,300.</DIV>
