junto con otros buques de la Marina de Guerra del Perú para evitar que el
enemigo hiciera uso de ellos. Su palo mayor, emergió durante muchos años en la
desembocadura del rio Rimac, hasta que fue retirado e instalado en el patio de
la entrada principal de la hoy escuela naval, en la Punta. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

revestimiento de cobre, contaba con refuerzos de planchas de hierro hasta la
línea de flotación. Fue un buque construido en Nantes para los estados
confederados durante la guerra civil estadounidense, y su nombre original era
Shangai, cuando fue comprada por el Perú ante la posibilidad de una guerra con
España.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">La Unión fue un buque con una historia peculiar que desde que estuvo en
nuestras manos hizo honor a su nombre, uniendo sobre su cubierta a los dos
héroes máximos de la historia peruana. El teniente primero Miguel Grau el
primer comandante a su mando, que la trajo desde Saint Nazaire al Perú en 1864.
Y cuando se detecto que tenia un problema con sus cañones Voruz, cuyos
proyectiles estallaban en la boca del cañón, una comisión dirigida por el
entonces coronel de artillería Don Francisco Bolognesi detecto el problema,

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">El 8 de octubre de 1879, cuando el Huáscar
y la Unión se vieron cercados
por la flota chilena en momentos previos al Combate de Angamos. Lo único que
hizo nuestro gran almirante, fue ceñirse a las ordenes dadas por el Presidente
Mariano Ignacio Prado, Director de Guerra, que en su articulo 7 decía: “En
ningún caso comprometerá el almirante Grau ninguno de los buques de su mando y
si encontrase buques enemigos en el tránsito, solo se batirá con fuerzas
inferiores, salvo encontrarse en imposibilidad de retirarse ante fuerzas
superiores, en cuyas circunstancias cumplirá con su deber”.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;"> </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">Pero muchos considerarían el retiro de la Unión, como un abandono del
puesto de combate. Fue entonces que su comandante Aurelio García y García, a su
solicitud, se sometió a un sumario indagatorio para aclarar su conducta seguida
en Angamos, siendo absuelto de todo cargo y responsabilidad, el 17 de mayo de
1880.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;"> </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 14px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28);">La Unión fue usada</span><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28);">
por órdenes del Presidente Prado durante la Guerra del Pacifico como un buque
de apoyo logístico y durante su ultima
operación de la guerra, el 17 de marzo de 1880, entro en absoluto silencio y
amparada en la oscuridad al puerto de Arica llevando pertrechos, municiones y
armas, burlando temerariamente a la escuadra chilena que bloqueaba el puerto.
Después de dejar su valioso cargamento y mientras los comandantes chilenos
deliberaban sobre la forma de impedir el escape de la nave; la Unión zarpo
rauda hacia el sur, burlado por segunda vez el bloqueo del enemigo.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">Durante mas de 100 años fue el anhelo de muchos marinos y navegantes
peruanos contar con un buque velero de instrucción. Un sueño al que los
miembros de Oannes nos unimos desde nuestra fundación, hace 19 años, apoyando
de mil formas la construcción o adquisición de esta nave por que nuestra marina
era la única que en Sudamérica no forjaba el carácter de sus futuros marinos en
un gran buque velero.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">Hoy la bricbarca Unión, nuestro flamante buque de instrucción velero (BIV),
forjara a las nuevas de generaciones de marinos peruanos en las artes de la
vela y tradición marinera, siguiendo el legado de la corbeta Unión, la
legendaria nave que nunca fue capturada por el enemigo.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;"> </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">No ha sido fácil llegar hasta aquí. Su construcción en el Servicio
Industrial de la Marina (SIMA) costo un poco mas de 161 millones de soles a
todos los peruanos contribuyentes. Pero además de ser el aula flotante de
nuestros oficiales navales, la Unión nos representara como una embajada en
todos los mares del mundo, mostrando nuestra riqueza cultural, gastronomía y la
oferta comercial de nuestros productos. Así que finalmente es una buena
inversión.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">Esta hermosa nave de 115 metros de eslora, 13 metros de manga y 53 metros
de altura, lleva como mascaron de proa la imagen en bronce del Inca explorador
Tupac Yupanqui, un adorno perenne símbolo del pasado imperial de una nación que
hoy con su crisol mestizo, busca la paz y el desarrollo para su futuro.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">Nuestro libro “Dialogo Organizado para el Desarrollo” (La experiencia
peruana en pesca y acuicultura), presentado ayer 4 de febrero en el Colegio de
Ingenieros del Perú, no hubiera sido posible sin la ferviente y voluntariosa
participación de la Dirección de Capitanías y Guardacostas de la Marina de
Guerra del Perú, que a través de 14 capitanías en la costa, sierra y selva.
Apoyaron de diversas maneras estos 3 años de trabajo; auspiciando algunos
eventos con refrigerios, movilizando pescadores, entregando invitaciones y
participando activamente con su personal
en los talleres de dialogo. Incluso los mismos capitanes de puerto
expusieron sobre su trabajo en las charlas del primer día.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;"> </span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; margin: 0px;"><span lang="ES" style="color: rgb(28, 28, 28); font-size: 14px;">La Marina de Guerra del Perú ha dado muestras de su voluntad de formar
parte de este dialogo organizado y multidisciplinario que proponemos para el
desarrollo sostenible y eco-amigable de las zonas costeras y ribereñas, pero
tal vez no es suficiente.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

merito, para que los futuros profesionales de ciencias del mar, de la pesca, de
marina mercante, y por que no algunos pescadores, naveguen junto con nuestros
cadetes, integrando en el gran velero a nuestros hombres de mar. Amigos de la
