<p>Madrid, España.- El proyecto de investigación NIXE III, basado en los viajes por el Mediterráneo del archiduque Luis Salvador de Austria en los siglos XIX y XX, ha dado a conocer el estado actual de la contaminación por plástico en la superficie de este mar, especialmente en las zonas costeras. Los resultados obtenidos por un equipo de científicos liderado por el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) revelan la presencia de residuos plásticos en todas las muestras tomadas, de hecho, el 97% de los residuos marinos encontrados en estas muestras fueron plásticos. Los autores señalan que “en menos de 100 años estos residuos han pasado a ser parte del ecosistema marino”. El trabajo se publica en la revista Marine Environmental Research.</p>
