<p>Por Milthon Lujan Monja*<br>La producción de camarón en el mundo viene enfrentando una serie de desafíos, uno de los cuales incluye la sostenibilidad ambiental. Muchas de las granjas camarones en los países del sudeste de Asia se han construido sobre bosques de manglar, lo que ha generado un gran pasivo ambiental para la industria <strong>camaronera</strong>. Asimismo, en los últimos años el sudeste de Asia ha sido la zona donde más ha impactado el EMS.</p>

<p>Israel.- Las <strong>camarones de río</strong> hembras, aunque más pequeñas en tamaño que los machos, son menos agresivos y menos dominantes, y por muchos años se ha creído que el cultivo de camarones hembras permitirá un incremento significativo en el cultivo de camarón de río. Debido a que ellas son menos agresivas, pueden ser criadas a densidades de hasta 40 animales/m2 y ellos crecen más rápido y de una forma uniforme.</p>

<p>España.- La rodopsina, una proteína poco conocida hasta hace unos años, permite a gran cantidad de bacterias y arqueas marinas captar la energía del sol y utilizarla para crecer más rápidamente o sobrevivir ante la falta de nutrientes. Un artículo en el que participa el Centro Nacional de Biotecnología del CSIC (CNB-CSIC) revisa todos los estudios realizados hasta la fecha sobre estos microorganismos. El análisis revela la gran importancia de las <strong>rodopsinas</strong> para la ecología marina y su gran potencial en aplicaciones biotecnológicas.</p>
