<p>Chile.- Los fiordos sur australes muestran en las últimas cinco décadas un incremento aparente en la frecuencia, cobertura geográfica e intensidad de las floraciones de algas nocivas, que el común de las personas conoce como mareas rojas. En la región de Los Lagos, particularmente en la isla de Chiloé se produjo una marcada sensibilización de las personas ante este tipo de eventos, luego de las intensas floraciones ocurridas durante el verano y otoño de 2016 ligadas a las microalgas denominadas <strong><em>Pseudo-chatonnella verruculosa</em></strong> y <strong><em>Alexandrium catenella</em></strong>. Ambas produjeron un marcado impacto sobre el entorno social y económico de la región.</p>

<p>Santiago de Compostela.- España es el segundo país productor de <strong>ostra plana</strong> europea (<strong><em>Ostrea edulis</em></strong>) del continente europeo, con un total de 427 toneladas en el 2014 y un valor de EUR2,2 millones. La sobreexplotación, la importación masiva de semilla de otros países y el descenso progresivo de la captación de la semilla en el medio natural propiciaron que la producción de ostras se reduzca a la mitad en los últimos 10 años.</p>
