Estimado Francisco: Cumpliendo con la finalidad de este foro, permiteme trasmitir a traves de el, el articulo PORQUE ES TAN IMPORTANTE LA TRAZABILIDAD. Si bien esta el articulo con el link del respectivo paper en ingles, vale la pena que sea traducido y divulgado a nuestros respetados pescadores, estudiantes y profesionales del sector para que entiendan que muchas veces no es que las autoridades (ITP) quieran poner mas reglas engorrosas, sino que la tendencia mundial es a que cuando se venda un producto a cualquier parte del mundo se debe informar desde el origen del producto (donde y como fue extraido) hasta donde fue procesado.
Pido a los estudiantes que tienen un poco mas de tiempo para traducirlo para que sea publicado en nuestro idioma en oannes y divulgado. Como me agradaria que por ejemplo los tripulantes de las embarcaciones artesanales poteras lo comprendan.
Asimismo les comento que pronto sera colocado en mi pag web el informe relacionado a los resultados obtenidos en el Crucero conjunto entre el BIC Jose Olaya Balandra y 3 embarcaciones arrastreras (Sta Monica III, Camelot y Snaefari). Esta experiencia ha sido muy exitosa, gracias en gran parte a la buena coordinacion entre el IMARPE (nuevos directores) y la empresa privada y a la seriedad con que se llevo el crucero. Les adelanto nomas, que los resultados obtenidos por el grupo que forme con Ingenieros egresados de la UNA La Molina en el informe redactado sobre la prospeccion pesquera de la merluza en febrero HAN SIDO CORROBORADOS al 100%. Desgraciadamente hubo autoridades que felizmente ya fueron cambiadas, que llevaron la ciencia a un terreno politico conservacionista innecesario, lo cual espero NUNCA mas vuelva a suceder en el Peru y si sucediera pues nuevamente estare presente para oponerme a ese tipo de maniobras. Parte de los resultados
fueron presentados por el Ing. Luis Mc Callock en Concimar.
Por ultimo, SI DESEAN SABER QUE NIÑO es el que se nos viene, pues los invito a las exposiciones de mis 40 estudiantes de oceanografia general el dia sabado 14 de julio a partir de las 9:30 AM en el campus de la UNA La Molina en un salon que les dare a conocer mas adelante.

Traceability is a catch phrase in the global seafood industry, taken in general
to mean the ability to fully trace a product from the point of sale back to its
point of origin, with information available about all transactions and movements
in between.
But why is this so important? The answer is that traceability is vital for
food safety, to prove legality and to verify sustainability. With seafood the
most globally traded food commodity, all three aspects are vital, yet there are
no international standards related to documentation and record keeping nor to
tracking protocols.
Mariah Boyle, project director at sustainable seafood consultancy FishWise,
has just completed a white paper on seafood traceability. “Without a Trace: A
Summary of Traceability Efforts in the Seafood Industry” points out that issues
related to illegal fishing and mislabelling have become more prominent in recent
years, as NGOs and governments make efforts to combat them. Media interest has
also brought concerns to fore.
“For seafood traders, the lack of product origin information and supply chain
transparency can pose significant risks and have far reaching and unforeseen
effects,” explained Boyle. “In the past, the focus has been primarily on
food-safety concerns, but media coverage has highlighted wider environmental,
social and legal issues associated with seafood. This has raised significant
shareholder concerns, which can impact brand value and question the corporate
social responsibility initiatives of companies.”
Mariah finds that opportunities for fraud are increasing as new and poorly
managed fisheries develop, resulting in traders being unable to track the origin
of products, or to verify they are the actual species being sold. Of particular
concern to her are the human rights issues frequently associated with illegal
fishing activities.
“I want my research to spark debate as to how the seafood industry can work
together to eliminate illegal fishing and unacceptable social conditions from
supply chains. If government, conservation organizations, funders and industry
work together, significant progress on seafood traceability can be made, and, in
turn, the environmental and social aspects of the seafood industry improved,”
Boyle told SeafoodSource.
The paper gives an overview of traceability and the importance of
traceability systems, looks at the challenges and explores how more than 40
international and regional government programs, certification systems,
conservation organizations, companies and industry groups are tackling
traceability issues.
Challenges to making seafood fully traceable through use of a standardized
electronic system throughout the supply chain include language and technological
barriers and the cost implication for smaller companies. “The industry has grown
up on long-term relationships and trust, and with supply chain information
closely guarded,” said Boyle. “Those still operating such systems fear that
transparency will lead to breaches of commercial confidentiality, allowing the
information to be used to others’ advantage.”
However, progress is being made, with DNA testing and traceability software
being developed and companies instituting traceability policies with the help of
NGOs, government bodies and technology companies.
“The process has started, but much more work needs to be done,” she said.
“Companies and organisations can also encourage countries to adopt the UN Port
State Measures Agreement, work with developing nations to help them prevent IUU
fishing in their waters, and ensure that government and industry work together
on effective and efficient traceability systems.”
Boyle wants the white paper to serve as a guide for seafood businesses
seeking to improve the traceability of their own supply chain and to build the
knowledge base of NGOs and other groups working on seafood traceability.
She recommends a series of simple steps to help companies improve the
traceability of their supply chain, including communicating their expectations
to suppliers, improving internal tracking systems, conducting risk assessments,
auditing high risk items and ensuring database systems are configured to receive
and store pertinent details.

La intencion en ningun momento fue la de señalar que OANNESS no cumple con informar y realizar debates, al contrario pienso que es uno de los medio mas importantes en el sector pesquero y por lo tanto cumple una importante funciòn. La finalidad del email enviado era llamar la atencion para que exista una participacion masiva del sector en foros como el mencionado tercer CONCIMAR, que conto con renombrados especialistas nacionales e internacionales, como el Dr. Luis Icochea.

El hecho de que solo un pequeño porcentaje de los miembros de la Lista Oannes (Oannes Foro) participen en los debates públicos a través del sistema, y se hagan notar, no quita en absoluto la lectoría de mas de 14,000 miembros que tiene el sistema. Los análisis de participación que hacemos con cierta frecuencia, nos arroja una participación activa y publica de no mas 2.3% de usuarios. Pero eso no incluye a cientos de miembros que se comunican conmigo, por email, teléfono o personalmente, por que les gusta la privacidad, o por que solo les interesa leer lo que dicen los demás. Ni tampoco incluye a muchos de los expositores de Concimar, que son miembros de la Lista Oannes y que no se manifiestan como tales, lo mismo que sucede con muchos funcionarios públicos.
La ONG Oannes, esta orientada a la búsqueda de integración y consensos en el sector marino pesquero, manteniendo este foro permanente en internet para todo aquel que quiera emitir su opinión o contribución sobre los diversos temas de mar, lo haga.
Pero siendo consciente que tiene una enorme lectoría a nivel nacional e internacional y que sus palabras deben ser bien pensadas, ya que el hombre es libre de lo que no dice, pero esclavo de sus palabras. Conozco mas de un caso de miembros de este foro, que gracias a sus mensajes han obtenido excelentes oportunidades de trabajo, progreso y muchos contactos, así como también otros tantos donde sus infelices comentarios, han significado todo lo contrario.
Oannes, proporciona el medio para comunicarnos y educarnos, usemoslo correctamente y veremos los beneficios. Acabo de regresar de un viaje por el norte del Peru donde he conocido a muchos de nuestros miembros, la mayoría gente que no participa en los diálogos públicos, así que si de algo estoy convencido, es que nuestro foro tiene una gran lectoría.

Durante estos tres dias se han disertado diversas conferencias y temas interesantes en el CONCIMAR, pero no he visto a muchos de los que escriben en esta pagina y que se ufana en ser protectores de la diversidad marina y de aquellas que usufructuan nuestro mar.
Hubiese sido interesante que en estos foros se discutan tantos problemas que hay en nuestro mar peruano.
