In West Bengal, the aggregate Hilsa yield between 2001 and 2011 declined
from 80,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes. In Allahabad, the yield is close to a

Tamil Nadu: Cyclone Nilam takes a toll on TN *

The coastal districts of Tamil Nadu were hit by Cyclone Nilam this evening.
With wind speeds of up to 100 km/hour, it severely affected many areas in

in the coastal districts were closed on Wednesday...

Gujarat: Pakistani agency abducts Indian fishermen, seizes 14 trawlers*

In the second such incident within a fortnight, Pakistan Marine Security
Agency (PMSA) apprehended 20 Indian fishermen and seized 14 fishing boats,

coast...

The United Nations report by Olivier De Schutter, the UN Special Rapporteur
on the right to food (A/67/268, "Fisheries and the Right to Food"),
focusing on the contribution of small-scale fisheries to progressive
realization of the right to food, has been welcomed by the International
Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF)...

*Myanmar: Fisheries body approves common use fishing grounds plan*

Myanmar Fisheries Federation recently backed a plan to ensure sufficient
fishing grounds are left open to villagers in Rakhine State and Tanintharyi
and Ayeyarwady regions. The plan to ensure access to fishing grounds was
formed during a three-day workshop from October 12-14 that was organised by
MFF, Network Activities Group and the International Collective in Support
of Fishworkers. However, the results of the workshop were not made
available until the following week...

Karachi: The World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) and Pakistan Fisherfolk
Forum (PFF) while welcoming the report designed by Olivier De Schutter, the
United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, who warned of the
threat of  ocean-grabbing  to food security, and urged world governments
and international bodies to halt the depletion of fish stocks, and take
urgent steps to protect, sustain, and share the benefits of fisheries and
marine environments...
