http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/Kolkata/Bangla-stir-to-hit-Bengal-s-stomach/Article1-1020860.a

The unrest in Bangladesh has claimed its first major casualty in the state
— the availability of freshwater fish in the markets of Bengal. If the
acute slowdown in the supply of such delicacies as tangra, bekti, parshe
and gajal from across the border isn’t bad enough news, the state may soon
face a sharp spike in the prices of the traditional rohu and katla — an
integral part of Bengal’s daily diet...

Hyderabad: Where will the new port Union finance minister P Chidambaram
announced for the state in his budget speech would be located? If the state

the new 2011 regime*
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Can-we-save-our-Green-Goa/articleshow/18842797.cms

Goa is often compared to a multi-faceted jewel, but its beauty and natural
assets have become the cause of mindless exploitation, and the loot and
plunder of its resources is heading towards the tipping point. Tiny and
fragile, more than 80% of Goa's geographical area has been classified as
eco-sensitive in the regional plan (RP) 2021. Yet its forests, hills,
rivers and water bodies are under a siege of mindboggling violations from
various lobbies...

Maharashtra: Sardines in India latest indicator of how your food is on the
move*
http://news.yahoo.com/sardines-india-latest-indicator-food-move-144749407.html

Mumbai’s new sardine bounty is an example of how warmer temperatures may be
redrawing the world’s geographic distribution of food with potential
implications for what and how we eat. On an early Friday morning, the
wholesale fish market at Mumbai’s historic Sassoon Dock is in full,
cacophonous swing. As fishermen unload their catch, local fish-sellers,
restaurant cooks, and housewives swarm the slick wharf, haggling over their
favorites – salmon, pomfret, and king mackerel...

*Gujarat: Gujarat's beloved sea daughters*
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/features/life/gujarats-beloved-sea-daughters/article1327285.ece

Until 2003, whale sharks, among the world's largest fish, which reportedly
swim nearly 22,400 km from Australia to arrive at coastal Gujarat every
winter, were hunted by local fishermen for their export-quality meat as
well as liver oil, which is used to waterproof fishing boats. The extensive
fishing of these marine giants, which presumably come seeking temperatures
of 21-25 degrees Celsius and phytoplanktons, nearly rendered them extinct
in this part of the world. Until help arrived in the form of a sermon from
a spiritual guru, Morari Bapu...

Madhya Pradesh: Whose water is it anyway?*
http://www.dnaindia.com/analysis/column_whose-water-is-it-anyway_1803692

Do you remember them — standing neck-deep in water for 17 days? Did you
understand what the farmers were trying to say to the state and to other
citizens who might benefit from their dislocation? They were saying that it
wasn’t so much about land; their very lives were at stake. The Madhya
Pradesh government had agreed to some of their demands, like lowering the
height of the Omkareshwar dam across the Narmada (but when another group
protested, asking that the height of Indira Sagar dam be lowered, the
police forced them out of the water)...

fish farms *
http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development/2013/mar/01/bangladesh-climate-change-rice-fish-farms

Integrating coastal aquaculture with wet rice farming could boost
Bangladesh's food security and combat climate change. By combining
aquaculture with wet paddy farming in its coastal areas Bangladesh can meet
food security and climate change issues, says a report. The approach
promises more nutritious food without causing environmental damage, and has
the potential for a "blue-green revolution" on Bangladesh's existing crop
areas, extending to about 10m hectares (25m acres) and an additional nearly
3m hectares that remain waterlogged for four to six months...
