Visakhapatnam: With the 45-day ban on sea fishing imposed by the government
of India kicking in on April 15, Vizag fisherfolk have devised the perfect

from 63 coastal villages in the district generate revenues of Rs 1.5 to 2
crore per annum by preparing nearly 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of dry fish for
trading in the ban period...

The Home Ministry on Sunday allowed the National Investigation Agency (NIA)
to probe the killing of two Indian fishermen in which two Italian marines
are accused without invoking the law that provides for capital punishment.
Amid concerns by Italy on the possibility of death penalty being imposed on
the two marines, the Ministry of Home Affairs has amended its order that
transferred the case to the NIA allowing its probe under IPC and CrPC
sections without restricting itself to the NIA Act...

The European Parliament will decide on June 26 whether to impose sanctions
on export of fish from Sri Lanka over the allegation of illegal,
unregulated and unreported fishing (IUU) by Sri Lankan fishermen in

Fisheries Ministry which made submissions to the EU representatives last
week in Brussels expects a positive outcome on the basis that a number of
steps had been taken to contain IUU fishing...

fishermen earlier this month during a search for illegal battery fishing
operations on the Ayeyarwady River, police say. The deputy head of the
Department of Fisheries in Sagaing township, U Myint Lwin, and one
fisheries licence holder were travelling on the boat when they were
attacked by about 20 people on five vessels near Htauk Kyit village in
Sagaing Region on April 22...
