you. North Sentinel Island, part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands which
is a group of 572 islands in the Bay of Bengal between Myanmar and
Indonesia, could be the hardest (and perhaps least desirable) place in the
world to visit. The locals who live here just don't like visitors ... and

The Indian Coast Guard has once again proved its mettle in Lakshadweep
islands when they successfully saved the lives of 8 personnel including one
woman and two children from a distressed boat at sea on December 26, 2013.
The fishing boat MFB Mussafariya carrying 8 people departed Kadmat Island
at 8am on December 25 towards Bitra Island, which is another, island about
40 miles away in Lakshadweep...

An ambitious project to mitigate flood damage in Bihar has taken a major
step forward with a central agency finalising the detailed project report

would also augment irrigation of over a lakh hectares of farmland...

A tiger from the Sunderbans took away a person when a group was fishing in
the fringe areas of the forests in West Bengal's 24 Parganas (South)
district. The man identified as Isahaque Laskar was fishing with a couple
at Beniseli jungles on the riverine area of Sidurkathi river when the tiger
venturing out from the forest took him away on January 2 last, the police
said here today.

The state government signed an MoU with IFFCO Kissan Sanchar Limited (IKSL)
on Thursday with an aim to providing quick and timely access to
communication on weather, potential fishing zones (PFZ), fish conservation
and cultivation. According to the MoU, out of 12 lakh fishermen in costal
and interior areas of the state, one lakh fishermen will be provided mobile
SIM cards to receive 4 to 5 free voice messages in Odia every day, official
sources said...

Development has spelt doom for a section of boatmen. A bridge over river
Mahanadi in Sonepur, known as the fishing hub of Western Odisha, has no

district marooned.  The bridge connects Sonepur sub-division with
Birmaharajpur to facilitate direct road communication with Sambalpur
district...

near Mudunagar when his boat capsized due to gusty winds and rough sea...

The Karwar Naval Base is all set to host India’s newest aircraft carrier

arrangements have been made for the purpose and they were confident of
tackling the situation...

obtain a loan from the National Co-operative Development Corporation. The
loan was being availed to convert their non-mechanised fishing boats into

the loans made it impossible for them to apply for the loan. "Many
fisherfolks live in joint families...

representatives in Tuna, when we sat on a boat together, discussing what a

created anger and indignation among coastal people in Tamil Nadu. Fishermen
have struck work, chief minister Jayalalithaa has accused New Delhi of

Colombo and it is very likely that the Indian fishermen will be released
and handed over to the Indian Coast Guard in the international maritime
boundary line...

December 2013). Over 50 fishermen participated in the programme which aims

*Sri Lanka: Charge sheet filed against Sri Lankan fishermen*

Police have filed a charge sheet against 59 Sri Lankan fishermen held in
Madurai, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Monday, the
Hindu reported. There are over 150 Sri Lankan fishermen in Indian jails,
and over 300 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan jails. According to the Hindu
report the police filed four sets of charge sheets, accusing the fishermen
of entering Indian waters to indulge in illegal activities...
