==========

**Workshop at WOC Business Forum to Engage Industry on Understanding How Ocean Processes are Changing and How This Affects Business Operations and Plans**

26 August 2014

**The workshop on “Changing Oceans and Industry Futures: How will changes to ocean properties and processes affect ocean business?” will take place on Sunday, 28 September 2014, 12:30 – 5:30 pm**, in conjunction with the WOC Business Forum on Ocean Policy and Planning (New York, 28-30 Sept, 2014). _[Click here for more information and the workshop agenda.](http://www.oceancouncil.org/site/pdfs/Business%20Forum/Ocean%20Change%20Workshop%20Intro%20and%20Agenda%20-%20FINAL%20DRAFT.pdf)_

Industry participants at the WOC Business Forum are invited to join this workshop organized by the EU _“Ocean Certain”_ research project, which is seeking to inform ocean industries of the changes to ocean properties, systems and processes and obtain input on how these might affect business. The workshop is an opportunity for the ocean business community to interact with the research community on understanding and adapting to ocean change.

**How, and to what extent, will a changing ocean affect ocean business?**

The EU-funded _Ocean Certain_ project ([http://oceancertain.eu/what-is-ocean-certain/](http://oceancertain.eu/what-is-ocean-certain/)) seeks to understand how ocean change due to global change and other factors, e.g. ocean acidification, ocean temperature variation, pollution, overfishing, etc., could affect key ocean processes that may in turn affect ocean businesses and coastal communities.

**How can research into ocean changes best assist decision-makers and ocean businesses?**

_Ocean Certain_ is linking research on natural systems to impacts on ocean stakeholders and is developing a “decision support system” tool to help decision-makers understand the implications of proposed ocean policies. Input from key ocean stakeholders, especially industry is essential for the design of this tool and delivering useful results.

**Advancing science-industry collaboration in ocean futures**

The World Ocean Council (WOC) is working with _Ocean Certain_ to foster and facilitate ocean business community input. This workshop is part of developing ongoing and expanded exchange between the ocean science and ocean business communities.

The workshop is seeking representatives from a range of ocean business sectors, e.g. fisheries, shipping, oil/gas, tourism, renewable energy). _SPACE IS LIMITED TO 15 OCEAN INDUSTRY PARTICIPANTS._
