BUSINESS PLANNING FOR EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS AND SEA LEVEL RISE: FIELD TRIP AT WOC BUSINESS FORUM
==========

**Field Trip to Show First-Hand the Front Lines of Ocean Policy and Planning for Sea Level Rise and Extreme Weather Events**

3 September 2014

**A Field Trip on “Ocean Policy and Marine Planning in Relation to Sea Level Rise and Extreme Weather Events: Business Response and Recovery to Super Storm Sandy” will take place on Sunday, 28 September 2014 from 9:00am – 12:00pm**, in conjunction with the WOC Business Forum on Ocean Policy and Planning (New York, 29-30 Sept, 2014). _[Visit the Business Forum Event Page for more information.](http://www.oceancouncil.org/site/business_forum/)_

All registered participants of the WOC Business Forum are invited to join this field trip organized by WOC and the New York Aquarium. The field trip will illustrate first-hand Super Storm Sandy's impacts on the coastal business community of New York City. In addition to a panel of experts and affected businesses, the field trip will include a hardhat tour of the storm's damage to the New York Aquarium and a chance to see first-hand their efforts on the complex work of rebuilding.

**Key Issues to be considered during the Field Trip site visit and presentations:**

▪
▪ What has been the business response and recovery to Super Storm Sandy?
▪
▪ In what ways were policy and planning efforts adequate, or otherwise, in relation to this event?
▪
▪ Has the event highlighted the need for changes in policy and planning in relation to business community needs?
▪
▪ What are the differences in policy and planning needed for extreme events vs. sea level rise?

**Field Trip Details and Registration:**

The Field Trip will include round trip bus transportation from the Business Forum venue (The Roosevelt Hotel) and admission to the New York Aquarium for those participating in the field trip. Participants can choose to return with the transportation provided, or remain at the Aquarium and Coney Island for the afternoon. Closed-toe shoes are required as the tour will include uneven surfaces. We regret that this tour is not handicapped accessible.
