The mass of plastic floating in the earth's oceans is hard to imagine.

Even harder to imagine is the latest report by the World Economic Forum that
says "by 2050, oceans are expected to contain more plastics than fish (by
weight)."

They not only put forth this alarming fact but also proposes the question of
how can humanity put the breaks on plastics use, while at the same time
promoting opportunities for innovation to build better environmental
outcomes.

 "The best research currently available estimates that there are over 150
million tonnes (165 million tons) of plastics in the ocean today," reads the
report.

"In a business-as-usual scenario, the ocean is expected to contain 1 tonne
(1.1 tons) of plastic for every 3 tonnes of fish by 2025, and by 2050, more
plastics than fish (by weight)."

So what does this mean for Peru? This could be devastating for not only the
fishing sector (which would have highly contaminated fish) and the marine
wildlife, but also the chain that revolves around it (which includes
humans).
