A rare and curious phenomenon, coral spawning, popularly referred to as
"sex-on-the-reef", has been recorded scientifically for the first time
along Lakshadweep islands on India's west coast, a Wildlife Trust of India
(WTI) researcher has claimed. Generally observed after full-moon nights,
coral spawning is a magnificent phenomenon of sexual reproduction of
corals, which involves mass collective expulsion of colourful eggs and
sperm clouds into the water by corals...

affecting marine life and fishing, the state government on Monday appointed

control board, revenue department, fisheries department and Maharashtra
Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), will meet once in three months
to review the pollution...

particularly when they are stranded due to engine failures,

under radar surveillance, he said if it was realised at the last minute
that something was in the way, large ships would not be able to stop or
alter their course...

Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), in CSV/XLS format, urged Sudarshan
Rodriguez, Senior Programme Coorindator of Coastal Area Mapping Project of
Tata Institute of Social Sciences.  Also please publish geographic
information (lat-long, boundary) of fishing villages in CSV/KML formats.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court here has ordered the immediate
release of five Sri Lankan fishermen, who were arrested on March 17 for

arrest of Pakistani and Indian fishermen had intensified in the recent
months after violations at the Line of Control (LOC)...

*Myanmar: Thailand Rescues Trafficked Burmese Fishermen *

A total of 14 Burmese nationals who had been trafficked into Thailand’s
fishing industry were rescued by the Thai authorities on Friday and
Saturday of last week, bringing to 29 the total of those rescued so far
this month. According to sources in Kantang, a port town in southern
Thailand’s Trang Province, 11 people were rescued on Friday, while three
others were taken into custody on Saturday. Fifteen other Burmese were
freed following a raid on March 10...
