helping fishermen in rural areas develop modern techniques for better
yield. The group of parafish, who have received special training at the
fisheries department, is working as consultants to promote effective

*Kashmir: Fisheries deptt organizes awareness camp*

Dakshinbanga Matsyajibi Forum Celebrated 21st November The World Fisheries
Day at Haripur the site of proposed nuclear power plant. 6,000 fisher
people gathered to express their rejection of the nuclear power plant and
their solidarity to the fishers' union.

Shuvendu Adhikary MP, Dibyendu Adhikary MLA, Ranjit Mondal MLA and a host
of Panchayet Office Bearers were present. The fisher people raised demands
for land rights, fishing rights, complete trawl ban and right to social
security.

*Odisha: World Bank, ADB team visits Cyclone Phailin-hit areas in Odisha to
assess damage*

on Friday after weakening into a cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 80-90
kmph...

*Tamil Nadu: Team assesses coral reef rehabilitation works*

*Puducherry: Cyclone Helen causes heavy damage in Yanam region, 1 killed*

an enclave of this union territory in East Godavari District of Andhra

bank, official sources said...

*Kerala: Fish landings in Kerala register a fall *

taking hasty decision without consulting the people concerned, in an
attempt to please the purse seine boat fishermen...

* Gujarat: Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority committees in coastal

The Gujarat government has decided to have district-level committees in all
the coastal districts of the state under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ)

committees soon...

India's Deccan Chronicle report that what are known as traditional
fishermen want the right to use amateur radio with both free ham gear and
GPS. This as a communications safety net when they venture out to sea. The
newspaper says that these fishermen have not found any truly affordable and
reliable electronic method to send or receive communication while fishing
in deep sea, especially when they face severe cyclonic storm....

*Sri Lanka: No fishing sanctions on Lanka*

EU Fisheries Commissioner Maria Damanaki announced today that fishing
sanctions will not be imposed on Sri Lanka despite a warning being issued
to the country last year. Following a formal warning one year ago, the
European Commission today intensifies its fight against illegal fishing by
identifying Belize, Cambodia and Guinea as non-cooperating third
countries...

* Pakistan: Increase in Balochistan’s fish production *

Balochistan's fish catch is increasing under the provincial government’s
strategy to meet growing domestic demand and export earnings. In 2012,
Balochistan produced 147,000 tonnes of fish and shell fish, up nine per

officials of fisheries department say it is half the potential fish catch
of 300,000 tonnes...
