*Gujarat: Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority committees in coastal

The Gujarat government has decided to have district-level committees in all
the coastal districts of the state under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ)
Act, 2011. These committees will function under the Gujarat Coastal Zone
Management Authority (GCZMA). The forest and environment department has
ordered district collectors in coastal districts to constitute the
committees soon...

To cut fuel costs incurred by traditional fishermen by one-third, the State
government, through Matsyafed, has started the process of distributing
diesel engines for fishing boats. In the district, Matsyafed’s study titled
‘Economics of Prevalent Fishing Units in Kozhikode’ had unveiled alarming
statistics on fishermen’s fuel expenses. Fuel ate up 66.45 per cent of the
value of a fisherman’s catch annually, the study had revealed...

*India: Committee constituted to review marine fishing policy*

An Expert Committee has been constituted on 01.8.2013 to have a
comprehensive review of the marine fishing policy and to suggest measures
for development of deep sea fishing in India.  Fisheries associations have
expressed their inability in carrying out fishing operations in the Indian
Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) due to conditions of Ministry of Home Affairs
for providing security clearance of foreign crew , such as (i) requirement
of minimum salary of US $ 25000 per annum as a condition for grant of
security clearance to foreign crew (ii) foreign crew to be restricted to
10-15% of the total crew (iii) relaxation of the minimum salary condition
of US$ 25000 per annum to foreign crew upto 31-12-2013, and (iv)
replacement of the foreign crew by Indian crew by 31-12-2013...

Chennai coast and another about 116 nautical miles off Krishnapatnam in
